The currency for South Africa is the Rand the symbol is ZAR.
The Rand exchange rate is very volitile and can fuculate dramiticaly on a day to day basis. At the moment the Rand is vey week against all major currencies.
It will be a good idea to start coverting some of your (Euro/Dollar/ Sterling) savings into Rands now so when you come over you will be assured you got a good rate.
