Trevor Manuel, has added a further R2-billion needed to complete some of the 2010 FIFA World Cup stadiums. This, making the amount spent on the 2010 World Cup to around R19,4-billion.
Trevor Manuel, said in the 2008 Budget Review that "Stadium construction is progressing rapidly, with all projects ahead of schedule".
The SA Government has also allocated R9-billion to public transport projects related to the 2010 World Cup. And made an extra R300-million avaliable to fund information and communications technology infrastructure.
The state-owned ICT firm Sentech made an additional R257-million for the digitisation of television broadcasting.
The government said it would inject a further R640-million into the police force enabling the SAPS to increase their police force by an extra 31 000 police officers to perform security functions during the Fifa 2010 World Cup event.
