There is a lot of hype around the Fifa 2010 World Cup in the press lately, but what about the Confederations Cup? There is very little media coverage on this event which in fact is the largest sporting event ever to be held on the African continent. It is the warm up to the 2010 World Cup.
Looking around at the state of our roads (I live in Cape Town) and most of the stadiums only set for completion in December 2009. I wonder how will South Africa cope with the Confederations Cup which is scheduled to take place in June only three months away...
In my next posts I plan to uncover how ready SA is to take on this event in terms of infrastructure, accommodation, transport systems and security. Also how many people are expected to come watch the Fifa Confederations Cup 2009. If you are planning to come to SA for the Confederations Cup or World Cup please let me know by posting a comment.

With regards to stadia
1. Four stadia are complete. i.e. Loftus Versfeld, Royal Bafokeng, Free State Stadium and Ellis Park.
2. The FIFA deadline of end 2009 will be comfortably met by all stadia. Soccer City, Moses Mabhida, Mbombela and Peter Mokaba will be ready well before this deadline.
3. Cape Town remains on schedule to be complete 14 December 2009, approx 80 days ahead of its initial completion date.

Thanks for your comment, I am refering to the Fifa Confederations Cup been held in June 2009... not the 2010 World Cup, as you point out things are running behind the 2009 Confederations Cup.
